DUDE. First of all, finding this software and then running it was like a 6 month process. I found out about it from this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inUOTPt2mLk
Then I did some researching and found it it was a Mac-only application, so once I got ahold of my pops old Mac, I tried it out, then found out it ran SO SHIT on 10.9 El Capitan. So then I decided that I should just try to emulate 10.5 on a VM. THAT turned out to be SUPER complicated, and I'm nowhere near as tech-savvy as I need to be to do that confidentially. So then I looked around and found out you could run Mac OS 9 on a VM, and behold, the PP software (5.9.8) was made for that OS. So I set up the OS 9 system AND IT WORKED. Started to experiment.
Now that we are done with how I got to run it, now comes the SUPER unique features presented in this software. First of all, the spectrum and pattern viewer are TOTALLY unique. They are just for visuals of course but they look so nice once you have a complex project. The logarithmic display for the spectrum viewer has to be my most favorite visualizer ever. Then, there's the ability to manipulate samples in their own sample window with various effects. That was also really nifty since I used freeverb quite alot and using it on a track lags the SHIT out of the application. There's also the BOX EDITOR too. Dude, it makes programming melodies genuinely so much easier that it single handedly carried my huge project on that software.
Also, the look of it is just pleasant to look at imo. The digital editor looks so good with the yellow highlights.
One last thing is the "Find" feature. It finds all instances of one thing happening and replaces with something of your choice. This is SO useful and NEEDS to be implemented in Renoise, which I'm surprised isn't a feature yet, with it being a VERY important tool. The selection window is also REALLY nifty, since it displays the values 0-F and shows their decimal value, which is really helpful since I don't really want to do math for hexadecimals all the time.
There is this one annoying thing where certain audio files wont go in at all and will corrupt, unless you put them in an audio editor in Mac OS 9 and save it, which will make it compatible.
All in all, 10/10 software. I genuinely consider a piece of art. So beautiful.
